Study Load

The normal study load for full-time students is 12 or more credits per semester, but not to exceed 16 credits. Special permission from the Faculty is required for any students who seek to take more than 16 credits per semester.

A student who takes fewer than 12 credits per semester is regarded as a part-time student. (Foreign students with F1 visas must be enrolled as full-time students.) Students may have discretion in taking a suitable load, but the program must be completed within six years after beginning the first course. Each student is responsible for meeting the requirements of the program enrolled.

Grading System

An accumulated grade point average (GPA) of 2.70 or an average grade of B- is required for graduation.

The grading system is as follows:

Score Grade Comment GPA
93+ A Outstanding 4.00
88-92 A- - 3.70
83-87 B+ - 3.30
78-82 B Good 3.00
73-77 B- - 2.70
68-72 C+ - 2.30
63-67 C Satisfactory 2.00
58-62 C- - 1.70
53-57 D+ - 1.30
48-52 D Pass 1.00
- F Fail 0
- WF Withdraw and Fail 0
- IF Incomplete and Fail 0

Students who receive a D or F grade for a course may choose to repeat it. The best grade for a repeated course is a C, which may count towards the GPA.

Any student whose average semester grade is lower than B- will receive a reminder from the Academic Dean to work harder. If the average grade for the next semester still does not reach B-, the seminary may request the student to discontinue his or her study.

Transfer Of Credits
  • Students who have taken courses of similar programs in other seminaries may request the Academic Dean in writing for transfer of credits. The Academic Dean’s Office will decide whether or not such credits are transferable. Credits to be transferred must not exceed two thirds of all the corresponding courses. Under no circumstances would transferable credits exceed one third of all the courses of the program enrolled at CWTS.
  • At the discretion of the Academic Dean, students who have previously taken Greek or Hebrew courses may be given a placement exam. to decide if they should re-take any of the language courses.
  • CWTS graduates who return to the seminary to complete a degree program may have some of their previously completed courses regarded as transferable credits. However, elective courses may not replace required courses. Any transferable credits should have been completed in the recent five years.

Attendance

Class attendance is mandatory for every student. Absences caused by illness and other justifiable causes should be reported to the Academic Dean’s Office in writing, and will be permitted only to a limited extent. (Absences of 3 hours limited to courses of one credit, and 6 hours limited to courses of two credits, etc.) Any absences beyond the limit and other unauthorized absences will normally result in a failing grade in the course.

Assessment

In addition to supervising academic performance, the faculty will make continuous assessment of the student's character and their performance in field education. All students will be guided and counseled on such matters. Under certain circumstances, a student may be advised to withdraw from the seminary. The school reserves the right to dismiss from the seminary a student whose conduct is, according to the faculty, unsatisfactory.

Graduation Requirement

To be awarded a degree or diploma, students should complete their respective programs with a minimum average GPA of 2.30 (grade of C+). In addition, satisfactory conduct, as assessed by the faculty and the Board of Directors, is also necessary for graduation.

Transcripts

The first copy of transcript is provided to the student free of charge. Further copies, which are $5.00 each, may be requested by writing to the Academic Dean. Transcripts will be sent directly to institutions or employers. Students with unpaid financial obligations to the seminary, which includes tuition, room payment and library fines, will not be issued a transcript.

Withdrawal

Students who wish to withdraw from the seminary must make their request by writing to the Academic Dean and complete all financial obligations.
